Ghost of Christmas Past and Present

I like to walk
sometimes the road is rough
but I am at home when i wander
looking at the sights and wonder
some people are all talk
full of themselves and faux tough

Why make haste for an early bed
tis wine, song and fun that spins the heavy world round
as winter wears on it shoulders a dream of spring
tis a time of year for endless fling
So drink up and huddle up with friends there not time to dread
may happiness and wonder abound

2004
As I watch the living file by
perched by the ocean with a glass of rye
thoughts of the past and present
trying not to resent
the curves that come my way
fate has had it's say

the pounding of the ocean against the beach
the glimmer in the eye just out of reach

A smile on her face
a heart in race
The wag of a tail
a friend on the trail

the light of a new day
the hope of the sun's ray

Floating around the universe in search of the answer that lies just beyond my grasp. It has occurred to me to be thankful for many things. In fact, There are more things to be thankful for than to complain about. It is the beginning of the holiday season. A time of great joy and great sorrow. No season is without it's ups and downs. No place without it's loneliness and happiness. Here we are in what seems to be history repeating itself, yet we are on the cusp of the great unknown. Today I want to celebrate the cooperation and hardiness of human species not it's brittleness and corruption. I am thankful for bright sunny days. I am thankful for rainy days that bring flowers and life. I am thankful for a friends' joy in the birth of their daughter. I am thankful for the presence of my friends. Mostly I am thankful for being alive and well. Happy Thanksgiving

Here's to the Universe

A Worldwind of looting a firestorm of Fear

I have been thinking about movie begginings that just rock. Every now and then a movie will start with something that just blows you away. I was thinking of this as I watched the start of Road Warrior. The memories that cover the orginal Mad Max and the two great warrior tribes transcend the time that they were written . So I decided to list a few of the best Movie starts that came off the top of my head. Steve Buscemi's story in the bar in Desperado is one of my all time favorites. Just the way the story unfolds and is told is wonderful. The life story so far of Amelie is funny and ironic. James Bond movies are a treasure trove of interesting starts. I particularly like the World is not enough. Darth Vader's entrance into Star wars is another.

A little short story to tide you over

I wondered through the haze of smoke in my favorite bar. You are not supposed to smoke in California, but this bar is owned by an Irish woman of great beauty and valor. I can't wear any nice clothes here. I really don't mind that much though. The beauties behind the bar are just some of the greatest people on the planet. Forgeting the drudgery of life in a dank pool hall. I was in th middle of dream. Hiking across the southern most point of USA toward the green sand beach. It was sunny and warm. the view was excellent. A smile on my face. Nothing but rolling green grass and blue ocean. A strong comforting breeze pelted my face. The sharp crack of the cue ball brought me back. It was my turn again. Ah' blissfull memories of Hawii on beautiful day in San Francsico. Spending it in a dark bark might seem wrong but I had already done my exercise for the day. Now I needed muscle relaxents to stave off thinking. The world news has not been especially kind. Well it's been more than a little embarassing. The Giants were once again blowing a Bonds homer. The less said about the chicken in chief the better. Blondes in tight pink dress walking past and smiling from the rear.
The juke box rocking some Temple of the Dog. I moved throught the regulars trying to understand the peculiar dialect of english being spoken. There was Jordi on one end and a full stuff shirt British accent over there. The strains of cockney reached from the other end of the bar. When a beautiful Irish accent called out. " There's the man. What do you want? a magarita? "

"You bet." I said. As the most beautiful girl in the world made me a magarita. Outside the world passes by. The downtrodden and mirthful. The sad and the conceited. It's one big crazy world. Only 49 square miles and I would not trade it for the rest of the country. It's good to be alive .

New Era of Bull shit

I want to start my annual Kreskin attempt by saying two things about the season. One ESPN NEEDS TO SHUT UP. I am tired of the talking heads bitching and moaning. I really don't care about the scandals. I want to see baseball. Lets be honest, there no such thing as integrity in professional sports. Let's just enjoy the season and games. Let's play ball. Secondly, I still hate the wildcard so there will be no second place teams in my perdictions. Second is still first losers. So without further bile, it is time for some irrelevent predictions.

AL LEAST
This once again is a two team race. Evil Team A vs Evil Team B . Tampa Bay is a mess as usual. This is a great place to mention getting rid of teams. I don't mean contraction. I mean relegation. It's time to move back to four divisions of seven. You come in last and down to AAA you go. Back to this division. Toronto simply isn't ready but you never know if all the young players catch fire they can come in third. Baltimore still is owned by the anti-christ. At least, Steinbrenner wins. What does Angelos have to say for himself. Evil Team A will win the division as Curt Schilling comes down with the Foot in Mouth disease he so richly deserves.
Cowboy up my ass!!!!!

THE YOUNG AND THE WEEK SISTERS OF THE POOR (AL CENTRAL)

This is a wide open division as there is no dominant team in this divison. The Twinkees, Indians, Southsiders and Tigers all have a chance to win. The Royals will stink that is for sure. The Twinkees are owned by the richest person in baseball and still have one of the lowest payroll. What is wrong with Cal (cheaper than Walmart) Pohlard? The Twins should be the favorite but the Indians have the young talent. If the bullpen comes around they will win. The tigers and pale hose will contend but in the end I think the Indians will find enough pitching to outlast the Twins.

AL WEST

This is another wide open division as all the teams have questions. I still can't bring myself to take the Ranger seriously. They have a good manager but no pitching. They are also owned by the Clear Channel man who bought them from Dubya. Which of course is why silver spoon has any money at all. Oakland lost two of the big three and got nothing in return but a couple of prospects and some used ball bags. Nothing of any use this year. Seattle got better but will it be enough. The Los Angeles of Anaheim just north of San Diego just west of palm springs way east of hawaii not sure where Angels are the favorites. Billy Beane will either cement his genius this year or look bad. I think this is the year he looks bad as Oakland comes in last.
Angels, Mariners, Texas

NL LEAST
The Braves. Till they lose there is no point picking anyone else. Without Red ass the Phillies have chance though.

NL Central.

St Louis Should run away with this division. There really aren't any teams that match them here. The Cubs could contend but woods and prior are already hurt. Just wait till Dusty mismanges them. Dusty is a master motivator but can't handle pitchers. Millwaukee will suprise. Cincinnati just won't spend the money. Houston got significantly weaker and older. Berkman getting hurt doesn't help.

NL WEST
This division just got a lot closer. With Bonds on the self for a month or two it will be a dogfight. The Padres and Giants have the best pitching. This is an interesting division because there are three exteme pitchers parks and two extreme hitter parks. The Rockies and there horrible uniforms are a mess. The Diamondbacks can't possibly be as bad. The Dodgers Suck. So it's the Padres and Giants. If Bonds is in the lineup by end of May the Giants will win otherwise it's the Padres. Did I mention the Dodger suck.

Winners
Evil Team A
Cleveland
California Angels

Atlanta
St.Louis
San Francisco

Headed to AAA
Tampa
Kansas City
Oakland (somewhat unfair because of the four team division)

Washington
Pittsburgh
Colorado

Goodbye Hunter

I was somwhere near Jack Keroac street when I heard the news. I was drinking beverages when the bartender imparted the news with a sadness in his eyes. I knew right away that the night would get ugly. Visions of Nixon morphing into Bush filled my head.

'it was almost too good to be true. Richard Milhous Nixon The main villian in my political consciousness for as long as I can remember , was finally biting the bullet he's been talking about all these years. The man not even Goldwater and Eisenhower could tolerate had finally gone too far. "

I could go on and tie it to BUSH the idiot but I am too drunk and don't want to give him the time of day. A bad drunk was going to happen and I felt powerless to stop it.

Goodbye Hunter!!!
